Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 June 2026

This is how Remarkable Chaos handles your personal information. We follow the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA, Act 4 of 2013) and related South African privacy laws.

1. Who we are

Remarkable Chaos is the Responsible Party under POPIA for any personal information you share with us.

Information Officer: Daneldi Eigenhuis
Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa
Email: remarkable.chaos.bus@gmail.com
Phone/WhatsApp: 068 127 6535

The Information Officer handles POPIA compliance and any questions or complaints about your data.

2. What we collect

We keep it minimal. Here is what we gather:

  • Orders: your name, email, delivery address, and phone number.
  • Accounts: name, email, and password. We store the password as a hash. We never see it in plain text.
  • Contact messages: whatever you write to us.
  • Site visits: IP address, browser type, pages you visit. This goes through cookies and Google Analytics.
  • Payments: handled entirely by Paystack on their PCI compliant platform. We do not see or store card details.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian’s consent.

3. Why we collect it

Under POPIA, we process your information under these lawful conditions:

  • Contractual necessity (s11(1)(b)): to process your order. We need your address to deliver, and your email to send confirmation and tracking.
  • Legal obligation (s11(1)(c)): to keep records for tax and consumer protection law.
  • Legitimate interest (s11(1)(f)): to understand how people use our site so we can improve it, and to protect against fraud.
  • Consent (s11(1)(a)): for marketing emails. You can withdraw consent anytime by clicking unsubscribe or emailing us.

4. Who we share with

We never sell your data. We share it with three partners, and only so they can do their part of fulfilling your order:

  • Paystack for payment processing.
  • Valenna for printing hardcopy planners.
  • Courier / Pudo for delivery.

Each partner has a written operator agreement requiring them to handle your data in line with POPIA and only for the purpose we specify. We do not transfer your data outside South Africa. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and put proper safeguards in place as POPIA s72 requires.

5. How we store, protect, and keep your data

  • Security: the site uses SSL/TLS (HTTPS). Data sits on secure South African hosting servers with firewalls and access controls.
  • Retention: we keep order records for 5 years (tax compliance). Account data stays until you delete it or until 2 years of inactivity. Marketing consent stays until you withdraw. Analytics data is kept for 26 months (Google Analytics default).
  • Breach procedure: if there is a data breach that affects your personal information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as soon as possible, as POPIA s22 requires. We will also fix the breach immediately.

6. Cookies

We use cookies to keep items in your cart, remember your preferences, and track site usage through Google Analytics. You can turn cookies off in your browser settings. Your cart may not work properly without them.

7. Marketing

We only send marketing emails if you specifically opt in. You can unsubscribe any time by clicking the link in any marketing email, or by mailing us at remarkable.chaos.bus@gmail.com. We do not send unsolicited marketing to people who have not opted in.

8. Your rights under POPIA

You have these rights:

  • Access (s23): ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you. Free of charge.
  • Correct (s24): tell us if something is wrong or out of date and we will fix it.
  • Delete (s24): ask us to delete your data. We will, unless we are legally required to keep it (for example, tax records).
  • Object (s11(3)): object to us processing your information in certain situations.
  • Withdraw consent (s11(2)(b)): if we are processing your data based on consent, you can take it back anytime.
  • Complain: if you believe we have violated POPIA, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
